Volunteer Opportunities

If you would like to join the Friends of Shelton Dog Park in our efforts to maintain and improve the Dog Park, please fill out the Volunteer Interest Survey and return it to the address on the form.

Business Sponsorship

There are several great ways that businesses can help support the park, while at the same time letting park users know about their business and its commitment to the local community.

• Sponsor a Bench - The park needs several more benches for the humans to rest and chat while their canine companions work out their energy.  Sponsorship involves paying to purchase a bench (cost $ 550). Your bench will bear a plaque with your company name and information.

• Sponsor an Event - Each park event involves costs, such as refreshments, supplies, etc.  Event sponsorship typically costs between $ 75 and $ 200.  The name and information of the sponsor will appear in all marketing for the event sponsored and at the event itself.

 

Current Park Needs

There are quite a few items that we are seeking to help us to maintain and beautify the park. If you can help by supplying any of these items, please let us know.

• Landscape advice and/or service - We are looking for a professional landscaper or contractor with landscape experience to provide advice and/or assistance with an ongoing issue regarding soil erosion in the entry area to the large dog park.  Contact Mandy Oram at (203) 922-2643 for details.
• Benches - See details under business sponsorship.
• Yard maintenance tools:  rakes, hoes, shovels, garden tools, a good wheelbarrow and some snow shovels (as winter will come again).
  

Volunteering

There are many ways you can help, based upon your time and talents.  Below is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities currently available.

• Work Parties - Help to maintain the park by joining us in planting, mulching and poop and trash pick up.
• Events - Staff the Friends information table during community events, including the summer Concerts on the Green, Shelton Day, etc. 
• Fund Raising - Help to plan and implement fund raising efforts.
• Visit Volunteering - If you are a regular park user, then please help us to keep the park looking neat and tidy between work parties.  Some of the things that need regular attention include:  picking up poop, throwing away trash and taking down any commercial signs that have been posted (note:  it is illegal for businesses to post signs on city property.  It makes parks and recreation spaces look untidy and is not fair to those businesses that abide by the rules. Please discard said signs.  If you notice a regular offender, please notify us and we will report them to the authorities for civil/criminal action.)
• Committee Membership - Join the committee and help us with strategic planning and group management.
• Social Networking - Help spread the word about the Friends of Shelton Dog park online.  Post Friends events and needs on social networking sites.
